About Vijay Diwas
On 16 December 1971 Lt Gen A. A. K. Niazi signed the Instrument of Surrender in Dhaka before Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, and about 93,000 Pakistani soldiers laid down arms, one of the largest surrenders since the Second World War. The victory led to the birth of Bangladesh.
India's forces were led by Army Chief General (later Field Marshal) Sam Manekshaw. Vijay Diwas honours the soldiers who fought and those who gave their lives, with tributes at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Respectful tribute creatives with the tricolour or soldier silhouettes work best; post on the morning of 16 December.
