Guru Purnima falls on the full moon of Ashadha and honours teachers and spiritual guides. It is also celebrated as Vyasa Purnima, the birthday of Sage Ved Vyasa, and Buddhists mark it as the day the Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath.
