About Dhanteras
Dhanteras, or Dhantrayodashi, is the first day of the five-day Diwali festival and falls on the thirteenth day of the dark half of Kartik. It honours Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kubera and Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda and health.
Buying gold, silver, utensils or a new vehicle on Dhanteras is considered auspicious, and homes light a lamp at the entrance in the evening. Jewellers, electronics shops and car dealers see their busiest sales of the year.
Retailers should post offer creatives three to five days before Dhanteras and a greeting on the day itself.
